Tashi Gyanga
 

Co-Founder

Tashi graduated from the Minzu University in Beijing, China with a degree in Mathematics on a full scholarship. Tashi Tenzin was born and raised in Eastern Tibet where he spent his summer vacations herding yaks and picking mushrooms to pay for his school tuition. Tashi co-founded YindaYin Coaching with a strong passion for providing educational opportunities to all students, including those who have limited resources like he did growing up. He has years of experience in government service, nonprofit work, and as an educator. In addition to his management role, he also helps to teach Chinese Mandarin language and Math.

Chime Dolma
 

President/Co-founder

Chime holds an M.A. in International Educational Development from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a B.A. in Political Science and Chinese Language from Middlebury College. She is currently the Assistant Director of Service-Learning and a faculty in the History and Global Studies Department at Riverdale Country School in the Bronx. Chime Dolma grew up in Tibet as an illiterate nomadic yak herder before leaving behind her family to pursue a chance at education in India. She immigrated to the United States, and despite her hardships, she was the recipient of several notable scholarships.

Yumten Rinchen Tara
 

Vice-President 

Rinchen was born into a semi-farming family in Amdo, Tibet, and is one of the first children in her family/region to attend school, let alone university. She obtained her  M.A in International Comparative Education at Teachers College, Columbia, and B.A from Duke University, North Carolina. She believes that education should not be taken for granted, and through her passion for youth empowerment, she hopes to impart that appreciation for knowledge to her students. Rinchen loves YindaYin students and nature photography.

Tenzin Kunsang

Math Educator 

Hello! My name is Tenzin Kunsang. I am from South India (Ooty). I went from Lower TCV to SOS Bylakuppe to Selakui school. I became a GLI scholar in 2015 and started my undergraduate at Carleton College, a liberal arts college in rural Minnesota. I recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and started working remotely for a tech company in Virginia. When I am not working, I enjoy doing yoga, meditating, watching films, playing chess or doing online courses on Data Science and AI.

Dhondup Wangmo

Tibetan Educator

My name is Dhondup Wangmo I am from Tibet, educated till UG in India. I came to the states in 2019 through Tibetan Scholarship Program (TSP, which is equivalent to the Fulbright scholarship) and currently in the last semester of my two years master's program in Science education at UMass, Amherst. I started to teach Tibetan for Yindayin kids from last year's April. I teach Tibetan for class D on Saturday. I am interested in translation, songs, and photography.

Tenzin Daesel

English Educator

Daesel is teaching English to Class C and Class D with the assistance of Gen Kunsang Tsering la. Daesel completed her BA (Hons) at Ryerson University— graduating this past summer with a major in Politics and Governance and a minor in Biology. She started her YindaYin journey assisting Gen Chime la with creating supplemental material to support the virtual summer English class. In addition to being a part of the YindaYin team Daesel is active within her community, she is currently serving as a Youth Policy Advocate with Ontario Council for International Cooperation’s (OCIC) Youth-Policy Hub (YPH). During the fall of 2020 she worked as a Urban Researcher with Pivot 2020, a federally funded program led by Simon Fraser University. She has also been chosen to participate as a delegate-at-large in the 2021 Virtual Daughters of the Vote program. In her free time she enjoys the City of Toronto’s numerous parks and trails, and exploring the Ontario wilderness (especially during the winter).

Tenzin Choekyi
 

Outreach Officer

Choekyi was born into a semi-nomad family in Tibet and went to school in South India and recently graduated from The City University of Bernard Baruch in New York. She studied Corporate Communications and Marketing with the help of Beyond the Borough Scholarship. She was the first-ever volunteer at YindaYin Coaching. As an educator, she believes every child should have access to a quality education.

Tenzin Kelsang
 

English Educator

My name is Tenzin Kelsang I am currently at St.Johns University majoring in Adolescent Education with a concentration in Social Studies and TESOL. I have been teaching at YindaYin Coaching for almost 2 years as a English teacher for Class C1 on Saturday mornings. I am also interested in art history, graphic designing and writing.

Tenzing Choeying
 

Math Educator

I was born in India and raised in New York City. I major in Psychology at Fordham University.

I started off as a student at YindaYin Coaching in 10th grade and then took an active role in the Young Leaders Program. For the past one and half years, I have been helping with Math classes for students 4-10 years old students. 

I am interested in astrology, mental wellness, and community service. I also enjoy going on walks, reading fantasy novels and sleeping.

Tenzin Khedup
 

Math Department Chair

Khedup leads the Math portion of YindaYin weekend classes. He works to incorporate grade-appropriate review, Common Core, Khan Academy and other math resources for the students. During the day he works in the advertising industry at Xandr as a Solutions Consultant. Khedup is grateful to give back to his community and help new younger generation students navigate high school and college landscape with insightful advice and mentorship.

Phuntsok Lhamo

Assistant Center Director 

She was born in Lithang Detsa, Tibet. She is currently pursuing her undergraduate at Hunter College. She finished high school at TCV, Selakui, India. She has been serving at YindaYin Coaching since 2018. Serving her communities gives her a sense of pride and joy. She believes a change can happen only with the collective effort of individuals.

Toe Karasawa
 

Mandarin Educator 

Toe is a Chinese instructor at YindaYin Caoching. She obtained a Master’s Degree in International Education Development at  Teachers College, Columbia University. With her bicultural background: Japanese and Chinese, she has rich language teaching experiences worldwide. Toe is very grateful to join YindaYin and to work with a passionate team to further enhance children’s learning.

Tenzin Choekyi (Tenchoe)
 

English Educator

My name is Tenzin Choekyi but I go by Tenchoe. I currently live in New York but I was born and raised in Dharamsala, India. I recently concluded my undergraduate study in forensic psychology with a minor in digital media and journalism from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I started interning at YindaYin from summer 2020 and fell in love with the dynamic team of volunteers and staff including the kids and decided to continue working with the organization. Since last winter, I have been teaching English on Sunday afternoons to class A and B. Besides working at Yindayin, I enjoy drawing, photography, and skateboarding.

Tsering Choedon

Tibetan Educator

Tsechoe is currently working as the education program coordinator at Ibex Puppetry in NYC. She was born in Lhasa, Tibet. She has studied at the City College of San Francisco and the American University School of International Service in Washington D.C. She is a localized curriculum writer and has co-authored the Tibetan Children's book including Lhamo Trung Trung and Menpa Dhondup. A little frog and A Crow and Little Shepherd. My name is Kunsang Tsering, I was born and raised in New York City. I am currently undecided with my major but am interested in health policy and public health. I have been working at YindaYin for the past three years. I currently help with teaching English for class C2 and D students on Saturday mornings. I am also interested in film and renaissance art.
